Acoustic and Twin Wire Fencing for a MOD Dog Training Facility

This site can’t be named as it is a new Ministry of Defence facility designed for the training and treatment of over 200 military dogs. The entire project was bespoke, with requirements tailored to both security and animal welfare. The facility included four large exercise yards and ten smaller exercise yards, each requiring carefully designed fencing to ensure safety and containment.

Challenge:

Working on a live military facility presented several challenges. Strict access control and rigorous security protocols required careful coordination of workforce and materials. The fencing specification demanded SR3-rated security measures capable of resisting determined intrusion attempts, while also accommodating the unique needs of the canine units.

The design needed to combine durability and security with functionality, ensuring the dogs could exercise safely without risk of escape. This meant bespoke engineering solutions across multiple yard sizes and varied site conditions.

Solution:

Security Fencing Services UK Ltd. supplied and installed a mix of high-quality timber and twin wire fencing, all buried 400 mm underground to prevent digging, with a 400 mm cranked top to stop dogs climbing out of the compounds. This specialist system was tailored to each exercise yard, balancing robust security with practicality for daily military training operations.

In addition, SR3-rated fencing was installed to secure the wider facility perimeter, incorporating advanced anti-climb features, reinforced foundations, and integration with the site’s surveillance systems.

Through close collaboration between Willmott Dixon, military representatives, and Security Fencing Services UK Ltd., the project was delivered on time and within budget. The result is a secure, resilient, and bespoke facility that ensures the safety of both the dogs and personnel, while meeting the Ministry of Defence’s strict security standards.
