RAF High-Security Acoustic & Mesh Fencing Installation

Project:

The project involved the design and implementation of a fully integrated perimeter security system at an undisclosed RAF location within the United Kingdom. The objective was to deliver a secure and operationally efficient boundary solution that could accommodate the acoustic, visual, and physical security demands of a high-value government facility.

Challenge:

Given the heightened security classification, the project faced several complex requirements:

• Acoustic Performance: Sensitive operations within the site required high-performance acoustic fencing panels capable of reducing decibel levels without compromising visual appearance or structural integrity.
• Physical Security: Sections of the perimeter required SR3-certified fencing, capable of withstanding prolonged forced entry using heavy-duty tools in line with LPS 1175 standards.
• Surveillance Integration: The fencing needed to integrate seamlessly with existing motion detection and thermal imaging systems.
• Aesthetic Discretion: The installation had to remain low-profile to reduce visual impact and avoid drawing unnecessary attention to the facility.

Solution:

Security Fencing Services worked in close collaboration with RAF project engineers, site managers, and security specialists. A phased installation plan was delivered to maintain uninterrupted operations within the facility while meeting all MOD regulatory requirements.

• Acoustic fencing panels were installed along the northern perimeter, achieving up to a 32 dB noise reduction rating and built using galvanised steel with timber composite infills for durability and appearance.
• Profile V mesh fencing was used along lower-risk zones, providing cost-effective boundary protection with anti-climb features and compatibility with infrared detection systems.
• SR3-rated fencing systems were deployed in the most sensitive areas, integrated with ground sensors and reinforced access control points to resist bolt cutters, hacksaws, and drills – providing maximum deterrence and delay against intrusion.

Despite logistical and environmental challenges, the project was delivered on schedule and in full compliance with Ministry of Defence specifications.
